Library

hope uThe library of HLC is intended to supply literature and related materials needed by or useful to church members and teams. In addition to reference books and books on Religion and Devotion, readers can find information on Outreach, Worship, Health, the Religious Experience, and the Sacraments. There are some interesting biographies (including, of course, bios of Luther), and three shelves of great fiction. The library also stocks some excellent DVDs and the Bible on CD, as well as several CDs of favorite old hymns.

Check out the bookshelf in the narthex. The books are changed every month or so, and showcase some of the most interesting and timely materials. This month -- in addition to the Bible for Busy People and many other books -- you will find a DVD concerning the Seven Churches of Relevation Rediscovered.

If you wish to check out a book, just sign the checkout form on the inside front cover and drop the form in the checkout box. Returned books may be placed in the basket in the library. There is also a basket for book donations, which are gratefully accepted.

Hope 101 Class

HOPE 101 is a six-week course on Lutheranism. Pastor Piper has recorded his latest class in four parts. Click each part for the video:

What Lutherans Believe & Teach, Part III

Lutheranism 101

"Culture or confession? What does it mean to be Lutheran? For many in the ELCA who've grown up Lutheran, religious identity is intertwined with a sense of family and cultural traditions: beer and brats for some, lefse and lutefisk for others, familiar liturgy and hymns for all. But the shape of Lutheranism is changing."   Read the whole article from "The Lutheran."

classMen of Hope

The mission of "Men of Hope" is to provide a Christ-centered fellowship for all the male members and friends of HLC. The Men of Hope meet on the second Thursday of each month for breakfast.

WELCA Circles

There are six active WELCA Circles at Hope - Ruth, Esther, Lydia, Alida, Naomi, and Deborah. They meet once a month for the purpose of fellowship, Bible/Book study and prayer. Each member takes a turn to lead the discussion. Contact Carol Gentalen for more information. We hope to organize additional groups as interest dictates.
